Safety assessment

Deadly poisonous

Based on reviewed safety sources.

An entirely white amanita with no ring on the stem but a membranous volva at the base. It is deadly poisonous and one of the most dangerous species to confuse with edible white mushrooms.

Identification

  • The whole fruiting body is pure white; there is no ring on the stem.
  • A membranous volva sits at the stem base, often partly buried in the soil.

Occurrence records in GBIF — not a claim that the species is absent elsewhere.

Safety first. This information is an educational reference, not a confirmation of an edible mushroom. Identifying fungi is difficult and mistakes can be dangerous. Never eat a mushroom unless you are completely certain of its identity, and consult a certified mycologist.
